YouTube Announces Updated Monetization Requirements

YouTube, the free video-sharing platform owned by Google, has announced revised requirements for content creators to join the YouTube Partner Program (YPP) and monetize their channels. These latest regulations seem to be more creator-friendly, with YouTube reducing many parameters, thus making it easier for new content creators to start earning through the platform.

Updated Guidelines for YPP

According to the latest guidelines of the YPP, content creators with at least 500 subscribers can now apply for the monetization program, provided they have uploaded a minimum of three public videos in the last 90 days. These videos should have a minimum of 3,000 watch hours or 3 million short views.

Regions for New Criteria

The new criteria are currently applicable to content creators based in the US, UK, Canada, Taiwan, and South Korea. As per YouTube's official blog, the company plans to implement these new regulations in other markets as well. Also, for US-based content creators to enable shopping affiliate programs, they should have at least 20,000 subscribers.

Application for Monetization

Content creators who meet the new regulations can apply for monetization and become part of the YPP. This also includes additional benefits such as enabling tipping options via Super Thanks, Super Chat, and Super Stickers. After a creator applies for monetization, YouTube will review the application within a month. YouTube retains full authority over the approval of the application.
